Happy Wednesday!
I love to visit my bookish friend’s blogs when I have time and see what reads they are recommending. Two of my faves are Book Club Mom and What Cathy Read Next. Often, Cathy will participate in #WWWWednesday hosted by Taking on a World of Words so I thought I’d join in today!
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
So, here’s what NEW books I’ve been reading (snapshots of the covers are above):
I’m currently reading The Midnight Library by Matt Haig for my neighborhood book club next week. At first, I thought it was basically the same concept as the movie It’s a wonderful life, (and I really like that movie!) but it’s turning out a bit different. I’ll try and remember to rate it after I finish it.
I just recently finished reading The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner. This book was pretty predictable but I enjoyed it. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars on Goodreads, but my son tells me I’m a tough rater, haha!
What I think I’ll read next is what Book Club Mom recommended recently: Thunderstruck by Erik Larson. The audiobook was available at my library, so I snagged it while I could.
As for other updates…because I have REALLY gotten out of the groove of posting, but I’ll just have to get back INTO the groove, cuz quite a lot is NEW these days! But in the meantime, I hope you have a great day/week and I hope you get to learn or do something NEW soon!
I’m so sorry I didn’t see this post until now! Thank you so much for the mention. I hope you liked or are enjoying Thunderstruck! I’ve heard good things about The Midnight Library and The Lost Apothecary – they are on my list 🙂 P.S. I also tend to be “a “rough rater” 😉

I’ve been in a bit of a book mode lately, so I appreciate this post. After my reading slowed way down in 2021, and dropped to nothing the beginning of 2022, I put in a good effort, and now I’m doing much better. I just finished my fourth book of the year yesterday and started a new one. I’m a tough rater too. What do you require from a story to give it a high rating? For me it’s not just a good story, but good writing. Sometimes it’s sad that a good story is ruined by a mediocre author. Here’s my Three W’s: Well, since I just finished one yesterday, I’ll list my last two finished: American Spy by Lauren Wilkinson about a black woman who grew up in New York in the 60s and worked for the FBI and was sent to Burkina Faso, based on real events, it was quite interesting. The one I finished yesterday I just LOVED, but I think it would not appeal to most people. Walking the Bowl by Chris Lockhart and Daniel Mulilo Chama is set in the landfills of Lusaka, Zambia, and centers on a group of orphan children there who work as trash pickers and beggars and prostitutes. Right now I’m reading the next in the Dave Robicheaux series from James Lee Burke. Robicheaux is a rough-around-the-edges police officer who lives in a small Louisiana town and fights his own demons as well as the bad guys. Next on the list is It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis. Published in 1935 it’s apparently about how a democracy can go wrong if the people let it…I guess that’s sort of on my mind right now and I’m a sucker for wallowing in worry.
