another NEW national park bucket list update

Happy Tuesday!

I’m here (again) to update my national parks bucket list. It seems like I’ve only been posting about this bucket list lately! Oh well, I’ll try to post about other NEW stuff soon. We visited Great Basin National Park recently. Who knew we’d be hiking through snow in June!?! Not a ton of snow, but still…

I loved hiking to these alpine lakes, enjoying the tree art, and touring Lehman Caves.

I hope you all have a terrific day and do or learn something NEW today!

  1. I’m so glad you made it there! I used to live in Winnemucca, NV and went on various work trips through the state. Once, on a frigid morning in the dead of winter, I was heading south from Elko to Ely, and saw the signs for Great Basin NP, which I did not even realize was there. I had time to take that detour, so I did. I showed up first thing in the morning when the park opened, and no other visitor was there but me. The ranger was very eager to show me Lehman Caves since I had never toured caves in my life. So I had my own personal tour at 9 am and discovered something wonderful! With the constant temperature inside the caves at around 50 degrees, it’s a perfect activity for when it is -5 degrees in Nevada. You have to take off your coat it’s so warm inside! I had a marvelous time in the cave, and due to the snow I couldn’t do much else. I promised the Ranger I would be back one day, and I haven’t yet, but I will.

Thank you for helping me bring back those sweet memories.

  2. Regrettably, we never made it to Great Basin NP during our RV travels even though it wouldn’t have been too far out of our travel range. Ah, so many places, so little time.

  3. Wonderful! I love seeing these pictures from your park visits. We’ve just started hiking locally – have hit a county park with trails and plan to go to a state park nearby once the heat wave passes. Happy traveling and hiking!
