Hello to a NEW year

Happy Friday and Happy New Year!

Yesterday, (as I lounged…it was a very unproductive day!), I wrote out my 26 for 2026 list. Wish me luck on completing many, if not all, of them this year. If it doesn’t happen, I’m not too stressed. It is what it is, but I think a bit of focus is usually a pretty good thing. How about you? Do you make goals, resolutions, or something similar at the beginning of a new year? I try to remember that January 1st is just a day. I can start a new goal any other day of the year as well!

  1. Do a slow read of Count of Monte Cristo (1900 pages divided by 365 = 6-ish pages a day!)
  2. Read an actual paper book at least once a month (get your reading stamina back in shape!)
  3. Attempt to make macarons
  4. Visit 26 NEW places
  5. Take a daily photo for a least 1 month (better if more!)
  6. Deep clean an entire room
  7. Do the Amy Johnson Crow’s 52 Ancestors challenge (at least 15 of the 52)
  8. Get family photos taken
  9. Read/listen to at least 52 books
  10. Do a random act of kindness (multiple times)
  11. While traveling, mail a book to “A” (granddaughter) with accompanied audio of me reading it.
  12. Plan an anniversary dinner while in Singapore
  13. Research all-inclusive resorts for a possible family Christmas trip
  14. Design and print out the 2025 photo pages
  15. Track your steps
  16. Track your sugar intake
  17. Track protein and fiber
  18. Attend at least 5 live performances
  19. Finish reading all of Susan Meissner’s books
  20. Complete a writing course
  21. Consistently use weight training app
  22. Systematically keep in touch with friends and family while traveling
  23. Plan activities for family get-together in Yellowstone so it’s memorable
  24. Work in your art journal and your junk journal regularly
  25. Take vitamins daily
  26. Make two more Retirement Journal versions (Southeast Asia and NW RVing)

Here’s to a GREAT 2026! Take care and I hope you do or learn something NEW today!

  1. Wow! What a list, Lenore! You certainly have lots of things to aim for. I stopped making resolutions a few years ago, after that, I moved to goals. This year, I’m setting intentions. That’s a whole “new” spin that I plan to post about once I have it set and manageable.

  2. I love your list of goals! How clever and specific they are. A recording of yourself reading a book is just brilliant. And a goal of reading a paper book is so good. I was startled this year when I tried to sit down and read a paper book, and it was so unfamiliar my brain and eyes were all over the place. Who knew it was a learned skill? I’ve been reading since before I remember, so I didn’t realize it wasn’t just human nature, ha ha. I hope we get to hear about your writing course. I tried to join two MeetUp writers groups. One was good, but was only for the month of November, and then disbanded. The other was filled with a bunch of lovely women who chatted most of the time, and I was there to work! So it’s back to solo writing for me. What’s your junk journal? Anyway, I am sure your year will be wonderful and your photos and your stories will be as well.
