a NEW photo of my week

poppies1

Happy Tuesday!  I finally got a chance to go to the poppy field to shoot over the weekend. I have a few more photos I’ll likely share in upcoming posts. 🙂

We had a nice, but busy and productive long weekend.  Sometimes it’s good just to stay home on Memorial Day weekend!  Friday was busy with high school graduation and festivities afterward. I got some projects underway, and even enjoyed a couple of games of racquetball with hubby.  Family dinners on Sunday and Monday made for a very nice weekend.  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

bird2

Happy Monday!

So, I was out shooting the other day and this little guy was very elusive, but I finally captured a shot (not as close as I’d like!).  I really don’t know my bird specie names, so I had to google a description to find out. I typed in black bird with yellow head and breast. I kind of hoped for an exotic NEW name that I could learn.  No, his name isn’t exotic at all! It’s name is “Yellow-headed Blackbird” – so basically my description IS the name.  Here’s an audio of the Yellow-headed Blackbird {HERE}.

Yeah, so that was pretty random…here’s some more miscellany:

I’ve tried a couple of NEW dinner recipes lately. There was a Cordon Bleu casserole, and a Taco Casserole. One of my sons texted me and said “Mom, you’re killing it with the new recipes! – that court on blue was BOMB”  Sheesh! Did I raise this kid in a cave?!?  Here was my reply:

cordonbleu

AND…actually I was wrong too.  The dish apparently originated in Switzerland – not France.  I learned something NEW! I tried to keep a journal of all the cute things my boys said when they were toddlers – I didn’t know I needed to when they are…well, much older than a toddler! Now I know! (Basically, this blog IS my journal).

Lastly, I was doing some family history research and found a cousin of a cousin who died at the very same hotel we stayed at on our visit to New York in March. Hmmm….I wonder what room he was in! :o) Kind of freaky-weird!

Have a great day!  Do or learn something NEW!

a NEW photo of my week and a short Sunday sermon

religion

Happy Sunday! I was going to keep a copy of the photo of this church steeple with just rain clouds in the background…but I think it got deleted.  Obviously, the rain clouds opened up and started drenching me -well, my car 🙂 with its moist contents, but I kind of like the photographic effect!

I also like this quote:

Day after day, on your path toward your eternal destiny, increase your faith. Proclaim your faith! Let your faith show! (Link to the excellent talk this quote came from is HERE).

Have a great day! Do something NEW today to let your faith show!

a NEW taste Tuesday

smores crack candyfr

Happy Tuesday!  You know, it seems like every time I need to take a treat to an event or activity, my day is just booked solid. Meaning I have to choose really quick and easy recipes to try! (I could just go buy store-bought cookies or something, but ewww! :o)

Anyway…this S’mores Crack Candy recipe is very quick and very easy and EXTREMELY sweet!!! Don’t say I didn’t warn ya! I got the recipe HERE.  Truly, more elaborate desserts are on my culinary bucket list:  Baked Alaska, Baked Brie, etc.  And one day I’ll have an entire day with nothing to do – an empty schedule – free time to do as I please – a day to experiment with elaborate dessert making.  Hmmm…am I dreaming, or what?

Have a great day!  Learn or bake something NEW!

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

lilacsbyfence2

Happy Monday!

My lilacs are fading, but I have loved having their beauty just outside my window for the past few weeks!  And…what about other miscellaneous stuff?  Here ya go:

Probably over a year ago, I noticed a recommended place to eat on Seize the Day RV Adventure blog and put that on my ‘to-do’ list too (because I had already heard good things about this little restaurant). The Pastry Pub in Cedar City, UT has lots of menu selections.  I already know I need to return – probably later this summer because I want to go to the Shakespearean Festival and also hike Kanarraville Falls this year (photo of the falls below…not my own – I’ll share my own later this summer!)

Another very miscellaneous thing is my new obsession with this blog I recently discovered: The Long Victorian THE LITERARY WORLD OF THE LONG NINETEENTH CENTURY, C.1789 – 1914.  —Because of little snippets I’ve read on this blog, I’ve downloaded and listened to Ethan Frome on my road trip last weekend, then scanned the movie clips on YouTube of the move with Liam Neeson.  I had already read ‘The Woman in White’ by Wilkie Collins, but I wanted to refresh my memory of it, so I watched the movie version. I just find myself looking forward to this site’s posts, so I can learn something NEW about the nineteenth century that I may not have already known.  You should check it out!

And that’s about it for today.  Have a great week.  Do or learn something NEW!

a NEW photo of my week and a short Sunday sermon

reddaisyfr

Happy Sunday!  I wanted to wait until closer to the 4th of July to post this red, white and blue photo, but…well, I just couldn’t wait. :o)

And…here’s a great quote and message for today’s short Sunday sermon by President Thomas S. Monson:

“In the search for our best selves, several questions will guide our thinking: Am I what I want to be? Am I closer to the Savior today than I was yesterday? Will I be closer yet tomorrow? Do I have the courage to change for the better?”

All good questions to ask ourselves regularly.

Have a great day. Learn or do something NEW!

a NEW thought Thursday

Here’s another quote from Jen’s Blog. I wasn’t sure who Rumi was…so in case you aren’t either…you can check out this Wiki Article.  However, I must confess, if I immediately responded to everything that excited my spirit, I might not get anything accomplished.  So, people – if you’re like me…be responsible in your responding…but DO respond! :o)  Have a terrific day!
