Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

Happy Monday and Happy Halloween!

I’m serious craving some hot, spicy, apple cider! My taste buds are going crazy for some! So tonight while all the little goblins are intermittently ringing my doorbell and yelling Trick or Treat, I’m going to have to make a batch.  I don’t know where my regular recipe is, so I had to google for some.  Here’s a couple I found:

Don’t they look YUM!!!

So…it’s Halloween.  That means it will soon be Thanksgiving. And THAT means Christmas is right around the corner! I gotta get busy! Last year, I made about 200 homemade Christmas cards for the college students my husband works with through our church. It seemed like a simple design!  It seemed like a good thing to do. But yikes! Making 200 cards took some serious chunks of time out of my month!  So, this year, I’ve decided on a really simple design. Whatdayathink? Pretty easy, right?

And lastly, I probably shouldn’t share my NEW awareness of my uneducated naivety, but I guess I will. You know, I’ve witnessed a least a half-dozen live performances of different pieces from La Boheme through the years.  I have loved the dramatic swells of the music…I’ve appreciated the technical difficulty of the music and the range the singers had to master…I’ve enjoyed the aria immensely!  But – it wasn’t until I went to see the entire opera (with sub-titles) that I learned that Musetta’s Aria wasn’t the serious, dramatic love song that I always thought it was. Am I the only one that has been mislead and thought this piece was a “serious” piece? The music is so….so dramatic and serious-sounding. I was totally laughing at myself when I learned the lyrics were so flippant! Yes, I’ve been duped all these years.  Silly, naive, uneducated me!

Want to listen?  HERE is Musetta’s Aria (without sub-titles) and  HERE is Musetta’s Aria (with sub-titles) – Be sure to watch the one w/out sub-titles first! :o)

a NEW Thursday thought

pumpkinsandtractor

Happy Thursday! Here’s a couple of Thursday thoughts.  The first, although true enough, seemed somewhat depressing, so I added another.

In the chequered area of human experience the seasons are all mingled as in the golden age: fruit and blossom hang together; in the same moment the sickle is reaping and the seed is sprinkled; one tends the green cluster and another treads the wine-press. Nay, in each of our lives harvest and spring-time are continually one, until Death himself gathers us and sows us anew in his invisible fields. – GEORGE ELIOT

The thankful receiver bears a plentiful harvest. – WILLIAM BLAKE

Happy Sunday!

I went out shooting last week and got quite a few NEW fall-ish photos.  Lots or hay, pumpkins, cornstalks, colorful autumn trees etc.  I’ll share more of them in upcoming posts.

And, here is today’s short Sunday sermon:

“Discipleship requires us not only to learn our duty, make correct decisions, and act in accordance with them, but also essential is our developing the willingness and the ability to accept God’s will, even if it does not match our righteous desires or preferences.”

NEW Mantle Decor

mantle2

Happy Tuesday!  You know…one thing I love about blogging is, it keeps me somewhat accountable regarding my projects.  I’m sure you don’t remember  (but I do!!!)….that I previously mentioned I’d like to have different mantle décor every month.  Well…that really hasn’t happened in 2014.  BUT, I remember typing that statement, and it IS a true statement…I’ve just gotta make it happen in 2015…or 2016.  SO…here’s November’s décor.  I have stuff for December…but January needs some serious help!  Wish me luck…and any great ideas would be greatly appreciated also!

a NEW texture for Tuesday

Happy Tuesday!  After visiting Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday (without planning on taking the time to post today)…I was so inspired that I just HAD to find an old photo to texturize!  I haven’t been out shooting lately…(I’m nursing my broken-necked-hubbie :o)…so I’m grateful to have a stash of old photos to play with!

Happy Wednesday!  You know…sometimes you start playing around with photos and never know how they’ll turn out.  This isn’t typically my ‘style’, but it sure was fun creating it!  I never really imagined I’d turn out something this….this…abstract? weird? crazy?  I’m just trying out NEW methods.  It’s kind of liberating!

These pumpkins that I picked up from the store today went from this… to this…to this:

a NEW November mantle

novembermantle

Hi all!  I thought I’d share my NEW November mantle today.  (I couldn’t leave the Halloween witches up until I put up my Christmas stockings, right?)

I think I’ll try to make my mantle different each month….or at least something NEW as often as I can!  Does anyone have any ideas for January’s mantle?  Let me know!

More Modge Podge…NEW pumpkins

Modge Podge has been my friend this week! I haven’t used this much  MP since I made the Game Room posters (I’ll show you those…sometime).

These pumpkins came from the dollar store, of course! Then all I did was rip some halloween-ish fabric in strips and modge podge away. My poor birdhouse has been sitting empty for months….so I’m happy to finally have something cute to put it in 🙂

I’m sharing this at Happy Hour Projects Great Pumpkin Party
