a NEW photo and Friday challenge accountability

bostoncommonfr.jpg

Happy Friday!

The photo above is of Boston Common. It is the oldest public park in the country – dating back to 1634! It was fun to watch all the people take advantage of nature’s beauty!

It’s Friday, so I’ve gotta take note of how I’m doing on a couple of my challenges. So, I’m pluggin’ along on my 12 Classics challenge.  I’m working on #11 (the scary one)…the book is just so, so, SO long!

On my Photo Challenges, I’ve completed photograph a stranger and want to do the ‘frame worthy street photograph’ next.

I’ve just started training for a century bike ride, so that challenge is on track.  I plan to ride 3-4 times a week and increase the mileage by 5 miles each week. The ride date is the middle of August. I did this…oh, about a decade ago.  It takes time to train…a summer with relatively few travel plans or other distractions.  I think this summer will be good.

Lastly, after hearing of all the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar, I think I want to challenge myself to start incorporating that into my day. I really don’t like the taste, so I’m sure there are tricks on Pinterest I’ll have to check out.

That’s it.  Let me know of any fun challenges I should be aware of! Have a great day.  Do something NEW!

a NEW healthy habit

I’ve formed a NEW healthy habit!  {I’ve been doing this for a while now…so I think I can say it’s truly a habit } :o)  Each morning, I juice half a lemon into a full glass of water and chug it down (yup, sour!…but you get used to it).   Years ago, I read how good lemons are for you, and I remember going on a lemon tangent; but, of course, that didn’t last too long.  So this time, I’m not going to over-do it…just a 1/2 lemon a day and I think I can maintain this healthy habit.  Check out these benefits of drinking lemon water:

a NEW habit…dry brushing

Hi all!  A few months ago, I visited our library and checked out five or six short non-fiction books on a variety of subjects.  I only remember a couple of them now…one book was about the benefits of water, and the other was a ‘How to get things done’ type of book.  I was practicing my speed-reading :o)  and so I went through the books rather fast, but I made sure I took ONE THING from each book that I could implement in my life.  In the ‘Benefits of Water’ book, they talked a lot about drinking water…(yeah, I know I need to drink more H2O!)….but they also talked about the benefits of dry brushing.  Now I’m happy to say that I’ve implemented this habit for the last few months and I’m confident that it’s an ingrained habit and I’ll continue from now on.

I can’t recall the title of the book I checked out from the library, but I’ve got a couple of good references for dry brushing for you, if you are interested!  I’ll let you know what I implemented from the ‘How to get things done’ book in a later post.

Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing Explained:

  1. Removes cellulite
  2. Cleanses the lymphatic system
  3. Removes dead skin layers
  4. Strengthens the immune system
  5. Stimulates the hormone and oil-producing glands
  6. Tightens the skin preventing premature aging
  7. Tones the muscles
  8. Stimulates circulation
  9. Improves the function of the nervous system
  10. Helps digestion

There is also lots of good YouTube videos on how to do dry brushing!  Check those out as well.  Have a great day, and try something NEW!

NEW green smoothie recipes

Hi all!  Well, day 2 of my 28-day challenge was to make a green smoothie.  Although this wasn’t much of a ‘challenge’ at all (because I regularly make them), I thought maybe I’d research some NEW and different varieties to try in the future. When I signed up for this challenge, I had no idea what would be expected of me….but so far they’ve been very do-able… thank goodness!

Check out these green smoothie varieties:

Ginger Spinach Green Smoothie

Coconut Green Smoothie

5 other varieties

And last but NOT LEAST,  you should check out The Green Smoothie Girl website.  It must not be a coincidence that she’s doing some FREE seminars in MY AREA this week!  (Don’t you love it when stuff like that happens!?!)  I think I’ll check my calendar and attend if I can.

Learn something NEW

My curiosity got the better of me again today…I wanted to learn something NEW!  It just so happens that I just got off the phone with my doctor’s office. I called to request a prescription for the anti-motion sickness patch. Yes, we’re going to the Caribbean on a cruise soon….can’t wait!!!…and I’m quite susceptible to motion sickness. So I have been wondering how, exactly, does this patch work????? Well, I learned that the drug blocks signals from the inner ear to the brain that typically would tell the brain that you are off-balance.  So, I guess when the brain doesn’t know any better, it won’t tell your nervous stomach to get queasy etc!  Amazing!  Check out:  How Does a Motion Sickness Patch Work? and the Wiki.  You know, one thing about being a curious cat is….I could spend my entire day finding out about NEW things!  If you read the Wiki article, you might be tempted to research more about biosynthesis, the relationship of the motion sickness patch to The Truth Drug, and how the Communist Secret Police used it….(and on and on and on)!!!
