i learned something NEW

Happy Tuesday!

I learn so much from others! This morning, as I was reading Nancy’s Two Trails One Road blog, I got introduced to Dale Chihuly! Nancy posted a photo of her standing by a glass sculpture and the caption was “It’s always nice to see a Chihuly”. I wasn’t familiar with that name, but I thought, WAIT A MINUTE…I’ve seen something very similar recently.

Hubby and I went to dinner and a concert last month, and the photo above is the sculpture that was in the lobby of the concert hall that night. It wasn’t until this morning that I serendipitously learned about the glass artist Dale Chihuly.

So, thank you Nancy! You know I love to do and learn NEW things!

Have a great day!

a NEW decade of posting

Happy Tuesday!

I had a blast playing with filters on this photo! The top photo is the original. Let me know if you like any of the filters (below) better than the original.

Plus! I realized recently that I started this blog A DECADE AGO!!!! What?!? Yes, September of 2012! I celebrated the anniversary by paying to get rid of the funky ads. Hip-hip-hooray! Right?!? :o) So, now I have a vested interest in posting more often, haha!

Here are the edited versions of this pic. In case you haven’t seen these items before, they are wind art spinners. Very cool to see in action – a video would’ve been nice.

It was fun to stumble upon this collection, on a country road, out in the middle of nowhere!

Have a great day! Do or learn something NEW!

NEW photos of my week and a short Sunday sermon

driedrosecollage

Happy Sunday!  You know, one of the great things about buying myself roses, is that I get to photography them while they’re fresh (previous post) and then again when they’re all dried up!

I recently visited a NEW online art exhibit, all of paintings of Christ…His childhood, His ministry and the Last Supper. This is one of my favorites by Laurie Olson Lisonbee  (Here’s the link to the gallery)

Jesus wanted the Twelve—and He wants each of us—to learn that humility and service are worthy characteristics we should seek to obtain. He taught that no one is too important to serve others.

Have a great day!

way cool NEW things to do with rocks

rocks

Happy Wednesday!  I captured this photo standing on a bridge looking down into a small stream and couldn’t help but think how even rocks can be really beautiful.  Then I noticed a few NEW and creative things people do with rocks.  Here are only a few of them:

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

stickermandala01

Happy Monday!  OK…so help me out here…what’s the word to describe when you seem to notice certain things all of a sudden?  It seems like a coincidence that I’ve been noticing cool mandalas recently.  It’s like a power that draws them to me…and they keep popping up in whatever I read lately.  Is it the law of attraction?  Is it because I recently decided that they’re very cool and I’m now a magnet for them? It’s kind of like serendipity, but not really.  What is the word to describe this phenomenon?   Anyway!  Check out the VERY cool mandalas I’ve run across lately:

I first found the cool sticker mandala (above) at The Amateur Librarian’s blog.  I, of course, had to check out the  history of mandalas at Wiki, and since they’ve been popping up a lot, I’ve pinned a few to my Pinterest boards.  Here are a couple:

Another miscellaneous NEW thing in my life lately was reading Endurance.

endurance

It was our book club pick for this month, and since I’ve missed book club for the last three months, I really wanted to get back at it.  I’m glad I read this book!  It was a long read of what seems like the only villain of the story was the weather and it concentrated A LOT on the weather…but really, what else could be the gist of the story!?! It is a true story and since I enjoy history, I rather liked the book and I’m happy I got to learn about the amazing men that went through that ordeal!

So!  Best wishes for a terrific week ahead!  Do or learn something NEW!

a NEW artsy pastime

firstzentangle

Hi everyone!  So I recently learned that there’s actually a name for this type of artwork… {I’m a little slow}!   It’s called Zentangle.   AND I’ve found that it’s pretty fun and easy to do.  This is my first attempt and I plan to fill up my sketchbook with zentangle creations.  There are tons of YouTube tutorials on how to draw different patterns etc.  Some of them are pretty cool.  As you can see, I started with the very, very basic stuff!  Some of the videos said they were ‘Zentangling Tutorials’; however according to tanglepatterns.com

Creating a Zentangle is known as tangling.
There is no such thing as “Zentangling”.

The cool thing is, I can do this pretty much whenever and wherever I want.  There is really no special materials needed.  I’m looking forward to learning how to draw more designs.  Please let me know if you’ve tried this!  Any tips and tricks would be appreciated!  Have a great day!  Do something NEW!

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

Happy Monday!  What’s NEW with all of you???

One NEW thing here (which I’m not thrilled about) is my sticking space bar on my computer keyboard! :o( Not fun! It’s taken me wayyyyyy longer than it should, for me to even type this first sentence!!! Arggg! BUT!…how do you like the NEW gift box I just made? (Out of regular paper!…nothing fancy!) I learned how to fold them HERE.

Also, I recently stumbled onto this art site and was introduced to a NEW (to me) art term:  Encaustic.  I love art in all varieties, and I’m especially happy to learn a NEW word:o)

Have a great week!  Do or Learn something NEW!

a NEW awesome artistic medium

lenore

Incredible eye make-up huh?  I  saw this over at Out of The Well blog and she said she saw it at The Journal blog! :o)  You should go to either of those sites to see LOTS more examples of this amazing art!

Since my name is LENORE, I just had to post this one!  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked,  “Oh, do you know there’s a famous poet that wrote a poem called ‘Lenore’?”  …Do you mean the famous poet Edgar Allan Poe?  Why YES, YES, and YES,….I DID know that!  {Quit asking me that!!! :o}

Sorry for the Wednesday Rant! :o)  It’s all cool!  Have a great day!  Do something NEW… (except ask people REALLY obvious questions that may or may not annoy them)!
