The NEWness Explorer is BACK…

ashdownparkhotel2.jpg

HELLO again, Blogland!  I took an unplanned 9-month break from blogging, but I’m back!  Things have settled down (at least for the moment), and I’m excited to document the upcoming NEW things I plan to be doing or learning about!

I started this site on 5 September 2012, so I gave myself a deadline to ‘get-back-at-it’ as of TODAY, 5 September 2017!

The main reason I was MIA was because of a huge work-related project I had to work on, but “regular life” got in the way too.  Some fun stuff though…

We went on a trip of a life-time to Europe this summer (pic above of one of the hotel’s we stayed at).  We cruised around the Mediterranean (Spain, Italy, France) and then hopped back over to England to visit our ancestral stomping grounds. The entire trip was fabulous! I’ll probably share some more pics from the trip in upcoming posts.

We worked on a couple of NEW house projects…we tore out a wall in our workout room and stuck a sauna in there so the door would face the bathroom (and therefore be accessible to the shower), and re-did the workout room including a ballet barre.  My hubby teases me and asks if I use the “bar-A” for my workouts.  Well, YES, today I did a HIP HOP BARRE WORKOUT! Thank you very much! :o)  The plan is to finish up the room with mirrors behind the ‘Bar-A’, …still need to get a bid for those.

A LOT of time went into planning a summer camp for teenage girls from our church.  It was time-consuming, but also fun and rewarding…and the girls will probably always remember getting totally rained AND hailed on!

And I FINALLY started on my “Secret Garden” that I posted plans about way back in May of 2014!   My hubby made this arbor that I LOVE, and little by little, I’m adding plants – but it still has a long, long, LONG way to go!

So! That’s {some} of what I’ve been up to.  I’m looking forward to catching up with many of the blogs I follow as well as get great ideas for NEW things to do or learn from YOU!

Have a great day! Try to do or learn something NEW today!

NEW thoughts on being INTERESTING

brysontri3

I’ve been holed up in my computer room today…trying to stay out of the way of the construction people re-doing my kitchen. Whoot! Can’t wait for that project to be finished!  My kitchen is 21+ years old and was needing some serious attention.  I’ll be sure to post some pics later on.  But….today I was doing a bit of surfing/browsing/wasting time as I stayed out of the worker’s way.  One blog I was reading linked to this post on “How To Be Interesting“.  🙂 Interesting huh???

I think I’ve determined that I should be a VERY interesting person, because I’m interested in TONS of stuff (that’s a requirement, according to Mr Davies).  However, the second requirement for being interesting is being able to share.  Well…..hmmm…that is NoT my strong point 😦  I’m TERRIBLE at tooting my own horn.  I’d way rather listen to other people than share my own opinion…(because I already know my opinion, right?…I’d like to know theirs!)  I have a friend {Darci} that tells me she needs a crow-bar to get anything out of me.  Ok, ok…I need to do better at sharing.   Yet this blog is a way to do that (see item #2 of Mr Davies list), so I’m on the right track.  How many of the ten items listed do you do?

Well, the construction men just left…time to get something accomplished!  Have a great day!  Do or learn something NEW today!

p.s.  The photo of the swimmer is just a random pic…(my son as he did a triathlon a few weeks ago).  I thought it would be INTERESTING to make you wonder the relevance of it.  Ha!

a NEW blogging experience (Blog Award Nomination)

It’s been about 2 months and 2 weeks since I started this blog, and WHAT FUN I’VE HAD!  This blogging community is great! Inspiring! Supportive! Friendly!….I could go on! (Yup, I love exclamation points!)

Yesterday, my good blogging friend at Miss Marzipan nominated me for the ‘Very Inspiring Blog Award’, and I am deeply honored!

Below are the rules for the Very Inspiring Blog Award so please follow carefully:

  1. Display the award logo on your blog.
  2. Link back to the person who nominated you.
  3. State 7 things about yourself.
  4. Nominate 15 other bloggers for this award and link to them.
  5. Notify those bloggers of the nomination and the award’s requirements

So…on with the 7 things about me:

1.  I’m the only female in my household (one husband and four sons)….although I grew up with 5 sisters and two brothers.

2.  I love my Savior, Jesus Christ and believe I can be with my family forever.

3. I totally love to play racquetball!

4.  I’m a bit of a transportation control freak.  (Don’t put me on the back of a four-wheeler…I HAVE to be the driver.  I even have trouble being the passenger in a car.)

5.  I got my first job out of college, in part, because my boss figured I was able to use both sides of my brain when he saw that I had earned a Business Administration degree while attending college on a Music scholarship.

6.  The world celebrates my birthday!  (Well, they celebrate on December 31st, without really realizing that it’s because it’s my birthday….I suppose :o)

7.  I’ve found I really love the blogging world!

I’ve chosen the following 15 blogs as my nominees:

1) Our Next Great Adventure 2) The Thinking Closet 3) Don’t be too timid and squeamish 4) Ashley Bollinger 5) Pillow A La Mode 6) Angela’s Adventures 7) Can’t Stay Out of the Kitchen 9)Pink Polka Dot Creations 10) The Great Fitness Experiment 11) Designers Sweet Spot 12) Wildflower Photography 13) Serendipity Is Sweet 14) Short On Words 15) Live Love Travel

I really wanted to nominate VedgedOut, but noticed today that she’d already been nominated.  (But if you have a chance…check out her blog…it’s awesome!)

So there you have it!  Having this NEW blogging experience has really made my day!  Thanks Miss Marzipan!!!!

Five NEW sites to visit to be Well-Rounded

Before I started this blog, I was a huge fan (well, I still am) of READING blogs because of all the NEW things I could learn!  I’d try to check a blog every day for each area of my life (physical, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, financial etc).  If I limited the blog reading to five areas each day, I could be motivated in each area, plus I could get away from the computer and actually have a life too! I thought I’d share some of the great blogs I’ve found…and there are so many, that I think this may be an ongoing series….at least for a while.

PHYSICAL: Melina’s Fitness Blog (She posts often and is fun and motivating)

SPIRITUAL: The Redheaded Hostess  (I love her ideas for scripture study)

INTELLECTUAL: Light Stalking  (I’m studying photography these days)

EMOTIONAL: The Generous Wife (This one keeps me from taking my terrific husband for granted)

FINANCIAL: Advice From Dave Ramsey (Love his radio show too)

So check out some NEW sites today, and be a WELL-ROUNDED blogger!

Lovin’ my NEW hobby of blogging!

My new hobby of blogging has been a lot of fun! I love being inspired by other bloggers….I love laughing at their funny and sometimes sarcastic posts….I love learning NEW things from them! I REALLY appreciate the time they take to post all the interesting things that they do! (Because now I realize…it’s a bit time consuming…but worth it!) One of the FUNNEST things I experienced, is winning a prize from a blog I follow. Doesn’t winning something just MAKE YOUR DAY!?!?! Winning this cute pillow recently from Pink Polka Dot Creations did just that! Thanks Rita!
