a NEW photo of my week and a short Sunday sermon

Happy Sunday!

I thought this quote paired terrifically with this sunrise I captured last Sunday morning.  What good advice!  I am SO far from perfect at doing this…maybe I’d better print this out and post it somewhere very prominent – and work at it!

I also thought this series of videos ‘Patterns of Light: Discerning Light’ went well with my photo.  The videos are about how to recognize divine light and discern it from our own thoughts.   Elder Bednar is such an excellent teacher!

Have a terrific day!  Do or learn something NEW!

a NEW member of the household

sallysknives

Happy Tuesday!

So what’s NEW???  We’re getting a NEW member of our household…she moves in soon…she’ll be 82 years old in March…and I rummaged through her kitchen to find the above treasures!!! (with my husband’s assurance that she wouldn’t mind :o)

Yes, my 82-year-old mother-in-law will be coming to live with us once she is released from the skilled nursing facility.  She fell and broke her arm and may have other issues such as heart problems etc.  So, we have lots of NEW changes going on around here!

I’m LOVING the NEW soft box kit my hubby got me for Christmas!  It made shooting these old pans and knives SO FUN!

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

snow

Happy Monday!

Well, I found out that it’s kinda fun to bring snow indoors and play around with it. :o)…We finally got some NEW white stuff where I live.  It arrived on Christmas Eve!  Beautiful!

What else is NEW?  Well, I’ve been thinking a lot about being ultra aware of things lately.  I started using a NEW budget tracking software system that my sister recommended.  I have always been really careful with our money.  I thought I was pretty ‘aware’ of where our funds went.  But with this system, I’m ULTRA-aware and I think that’s a good thing.  The system is called YNAB (You Need A Budget).

I’m also tracking my eating and exercising more…thus I’m being ULTRA-aware of what goes into my bod also.  It sure takes time, but I think awareness is key to successfully reaching goals.  Tracking is essential!  FYI…there are TONS of food journaling apps etc.

And lastly…I got a NEW “AppleTV” gadget.  I think I’ll like it a lot…I’ll let you know my review in a future post.   I don’t watch a lot of TV, but when I do, my biggest pet peeve is having to watch commercials.  Therefore I have to shell out big money just to have a DVR with our cable system and now the AppleTV…basically for the same reason.  :o)

Have a great Monday!  Do or Learn or BUY something NEW!

winterberries2

Happy Sunday!  Here’s a NEW photo of my week.  I’m not sure if these are considered berries or if they are some other type of winter fruit leftover on these hibernating bushes.  However, they reminded me of this story about the current bush and the gardener who drastically pruned it…just as the Lord occasionally rebukes and chastens us.   The title of the talk is “As Many as I Love, I Rebuke and Chasten”…The very experience of enduring chastening can refine us and prepare us for greater spiritual privileges.

cmasornaments

Happy Sunday!  Yesterday I shared the snapshot of my mantle.  Today, I’ll share a close up of the ornaments on the mantle, but with a bit more editing.  :o)

Each Christmas when my boys were young, we’d talk about all the symbols of Christmas and what the true meanings were.  We always enjoyed reading a story about them…we always called it “And Santa whispered, Teach the Children the True Meaning of Christmas”.  I posted it a couple of years ago {HERE}, but here’s another short excerpt to go along with my red ornament photograph:

Santa gently laid the star on the fireplace mantle and brought from the bag a bright red Christmas tree ornament.

“Teach the children that red is the first color of Christmas. It was first used by the faithful people to remind them of the blood that was shed for all the people by the Savior. Christ gave His life and shed His blood that every man might have God’s gift of Eternal Life. Red is deep, intense, and vivid — the richest color of all, and it is a symbol of the greatest gift from God.”

“Teach the children,” he said as he pulled a small Christmas tree from the bottom of the toy bag. He placed it near the fireplace and gently hung the red decoration on it.

I hope we will all remember the true meaning of all the loveliness around us this time of year.  I also recently watched this fantastic video called:  HE IS THE GIFT….another great reminder!

NEW December mantle decor

decembermantle

Happy Saturday!  I’m sharing this snapshot of my December mantle in order to remind myself to continue to think ahead and think of something NEW to put up on the mantle every month.  Many thanks for your suggestions for January’s theme when I posted November’s pics.  I’m working on it…{in the back of my brain}!

Have a great day! Do or learn something NEW!
