a NEW Thursday Thought

So, of course, we should appreciate the adversity we face through our personal ‘storms’ and realize we are establishing deeper personal roots and a more firm foundation…even though it can be terribly HARD sometimes!

Do  or Learn something NEW today!

a NEW birthday surprise

pearls

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Last week was my birthday, and my sweet hubby gave me a BIG surprise!  He’s been telling me (for years now) that he likes me to wear pearls and that one of these days, he was going to buy me the ‘real deal’!   Well, yes, you guessed it!  He did it!  They are gorgeous and I’ve learned a few NEW things about pearls (HERE…gotta love Wikipedia!)

Also, did you know any of these ‘Pearl Lores????

* Pearls have the powers of love, money, protection, and luck.

* Pearls were dedicated by the Romans to Isis and they were worn to obtain her favor.

* In early Chinese myths, pearls fell from the sky when dragons fought among the clouds.

a NEW treat on my porch

cookies

Aren’t these pretty little cookies? AND they taste even better than they look!  {You know I’m addicted to photography when I have to take a photo of a nice, sweet treat my kind neighbor leaves on my porch!}  But really, they are soooo pretty!

Tip:  These will even freeze well!  I know, because by the time we returned home, these little darlings were frozen from being on my porch for a few hours.  But after they thawed, they were still delish!

I’ve begged for the recipe, so I’ll try and post that soon.

Have a great day!  Learn or Do something NEW…(leaving a treat for a neighbor is a good idea)!  Thanks Darci!

a NEW cream cheese frosting option

ccfrosting

Cream Cheese Frosting…YUM!!!  I’ll admit I’ve previously just whipped up my own version of cream cheese, powdered sugar and milk until I liked the consistency.  I don’t know what made me go searching for an actual “recipe” today, but I did.  So many different versions of the basic ingredients…some with more butter…some with less butter etc.  Today I just used the basic Martha Stewart recipe.  However, here’s a NEW twist that I’m going to have to try soon:

Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting

I think it just might be fabulous on cinnamon rolls!

Have a great day!  Try something NEW…even if it’s a simple NEW twist on an old recipe.

NEW thoughts on being a “Pollyanna”

pollyanna

OK…do NOT laugh at me, but I just recently finished reading the book ‘Pollyanna’ for the first time in my life!  Yikes!  What took me so long?  Actually, I never really had the desire to read it  before.  It seemed to me, to be a very old-fashioned book which I thought I already knew the plot…(an overly optimistic girl who constantly looked at life through rose-colored glasses).  At least that is the stereo-typed synopsis of the book!  Well, I think I’ve mentioned before that I really DO NOT appreciate stereotypes, so I’m soooo GLAD I finally read the book so I can debunk that general view of this story!

I figured this book was a classic and since it is referenced quite often, I  wanted to read it for myself.  I really liked it!  Pollyanna was a very optimistic little girl, but there is nothing in the book to describe her as being ‘blindly’ optimistic , or excessively so.  There were quite a few instances in the story where Pollyanna was sad, disappointed or discouraged; but she simply had developed the skills to see the positives in life.  I think more people should develop such a skill!  Although the counseling profession would most likely suffer a bit :o)

I think the next time I hear someone derogatorily refer to someone as being a “Pollyanna”, I’ll ask them if they’ve even read the book.  (Probably not, right?)

Have a great day!  Do or Learn OR READ something NEW!  Even if it’s a 100-year-old book that you thought you already knew the plot!
