NEW neighbors and a NEW recipe

Happy Wednesday!
Can you tell I’ve been in the kitchen lately? I tried a NEW brownie recipe – Pioneer Womans’ “Knock You Naked Brownies”. I’m not sure what that really means, but if it means they are very scrumptious – well, I agree. :o) And we’ve had a few NEW neighbors move into the area lately, so I finally made up three of these cookie platters and knocked off all three welcoming duties off my to-do list all in one day.

It seems like the theme of this post is knock or knocking, so I guess I should ask you a few knock knock jokes…
Knock knock.
Who’s there?
Cash.
Cash who?
No thanks, I’ll have some peanuts.
Knock knock.
Who’s there?
Voodoo.
Voodoo who?
Voodoo you think you are, asking me so many questions?
Knock knock.
Who’s there?
Thermos.
Thermos who?
Thermos be a better way to get through to you.
Have a great day! Do, learn or bake something NEW…OR, send me some NEW jokes! Apparently I need some! :o)
a NEW photo of my week

Happy Tuesday!
So I warned you that I’d be posting a few pics from my Scarecrow Festival photography excursion. You’ll have to let me know which ones you like best. The funny thing is, a couple of my favorite posts today in my WordPress Reader has a dog theme! I guess I’m just playing along with the theme.
Why are they my favorite posts today? Well, check out THIS very clever poem written by “Charlie the Dog” and then go and check out THIS very cool photo manipulation of ‘A Dog on the Path’ and I think you’ll see why! :o)
Have a great day. Do something doggone NEW and different today!
Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

Happy Monday y’all!
Yes, isn’t Octobers da best!?! Only another week and half of it though! Novembers are good too though! Pumpkin pie with oodles of whipped cream is coming our way! Yum!

So, what I’ve been up to:
My photography outing this week was to a Scarecrow festival. Warning: You’ll be seeing more scarecrows than you probably want to see in upcoming posts!
I’m going to call my Classics Reading Challenge ‘finished’. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find “La dame de Monsoreau” by Alexandre Dumas translated into English. I tried! But…I give up! I’m done. It’s finished. I enjoyed the challenge! My last book to read was Dracula! Good timing eh? I just finish it this week – actually I “read” it by listening to the audio book on my commutes into work. That counts, right? {pun intended :o} Ha!
The gal who is hosting our book club this month is asking everyone to dress up! I’m going as something similar to this:

I got an old white dress at the thrift store and my niece who is an expert seamstress added the gauzy embellishments etc. I’ll try and have someone take some pics at book club that night and I’ll post them. Creepy eh?
I got me {another} NEW camera :o) One cannot have too many cameras! This one is a high-end compact. I’m gonna love carrying it around rather than my large DSL on our upcoming trip to New Zealand/Australia! I’m sure I’ll be posting plenty of pics from that trip. Can’t wait to go sailing through the fjords of NZ!
That’s it for this version of Monday’s Miscellany. Have a great day! Do or learn something NEW!
a NEW photo of my week and a short Sunday sermon

Happy Sunday!
Oh, how life is getting in the way of my photography habits! And it’s SO beautiful out there! So many rich, autumn colors! I had a brief outing a few days ago, but I want need to get out more frequently! All the pumpkins, the mums, the fall foliage – oh so beautiful and fun to shoot!
Well today’s quote reminds me of people that I know, who love and live life to it’s fullest. They’re an awesome example to me. I genuinely love life too; but the people I’m thinking of seem to treat life as a gift. It is precious to them. Thinking of life as a gift reminds me of a song the young people in our church sing:
My life is a gift; my life has a plan.
My life has a purpose; in heav’n it began.
My choice was to come to this lovely home on earth
And seek for God’s light to direct me from birth.
OR…taking the advice from Leonardo Di Caprio (well, really, his character on Titanic) is good too:
Lastly, for this Sunday sermon, I’ll share a fabulous talk entitled “Come What May, and Love It” (Link HERE)
In case you don’t have time to go read the entire talk, I’ll add some highlights below (but I hope you do go read it – I think you’ll love the blind date story!!! Haha!):
- The way we react to adversity can be a major factor in how happy and successful we can be in life.
- Learn to laugh
- Seek for an eternal perspective
- Understand the principle of compensation
- Trust in our heavenly father and in his son, Jesus Christ
That is it for today! Go do something NEW and live life and LOVE it!
a NEW photo challenge

Happy Friday!
Fridays seem to be my challenge days. This week I’m joining up on Nancy Merrill Photography’s A Photo a Week Challenge. At first, I wasn’t sure I had any “gilded” photos, but since she reminded us of the definition, I figured this one would work:
According to the dictionary, gilded has two meanings:
- Covered thinly with gold leaf or gold paint.
- Wealthy and privileged.
This photo is of the Prince’s Palace in Monaco. Monaco is the 2nd smallest country in the world (after the Vatican), and most people who live there are “wealthy and privileged”. Monaco is known as a playground for the rich and famous, due to its tax laws. In 2014, it was noted about 30% of the population was made up of millionaires. (per Wilkipedia)
Here’s another shot of Monaco’s yacht-lined harbor. Yes, a VERY “wealthy and privileged” place.

I love a good challenge to urge me to sift through photos and come up with the theme. Now, since I don’t seem to have any photos of items “covered thinly with gold leaf” I want to go see if I can shoot me something within that theme. Too bad I’m not still in Monaco – or even elsewhere in Europe. My hunt might be easier there. :o)
Have a great day! Do some sort of NEW challenge!

a NEW note to self…

Note to self…Always plan a road trip (traveling north) toward the end of September each and every year!

We traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyoming last weekend and the colors were gorgeous! The best views seemed to be at spots that we couldn’t really stop and take photos…but the beauty is fondly stored in my memory instead of my camera’s memory.

The dinner and show at Bar J Wranglers in Jackson was excellent too. A friend recommended it to me, years ago, and I’m happy we finally got to go.

Road trips are the best for taking in all of the beautiful fall scenery. If any of you have a recommended itinerary for next fall’s trip, let me know! Have a great day! Do or learn or see something NEW!
a NEW recipe and a NEW baking technique

Happy Friday!
So I baked a cake – and it wasn’t even a family member’s birthday! Yes, that is highly unusual!!! I was so inspired by Jodi’s cake at the creative life in between – {You’ve got to go see! It was SO, SO beautiful!} It was a Lemon Blueberry Zucchini Cake and I just had to make one for my people. I had three really large zucchinis on my counter, just waiting for my attention, so Jodi’s posting of this recipe was perfect timing. I only wish I could have copied her squash blossom garnish, but no blossoms were to be found in my garden (bummer!).
AND…I tried a NEW baking technique. I’ve been wanting to try out cake strips for a while. I didn’t even know about cake strips until recently. How many of you knew about these? (Have I been living in a cave??!??)
These are cake strips – they are supposed to make your cakes more moist and level:

Since I wanted to try this technique out before purchasing a set, I used the DIY tinfoil/wet paper towel version this time:

I learned how to do the DIY version here:
Thanks to Jodi for the inspiration (I get tons from her site!). Now to go eat some more Lemon Blueberry Zucchini yumminess. Have a great day. Do or learn or bake something NEW!
