a NEW family history find

genealogy

Hi all!  I just had to share these  “Before and After” photos!  As I previously mentioned, my travels to Minnesota was mainly to do family history work while my husband went to a conference.  I already had some vital information on this family member, but more sources and proof of correct research is ALWAYS a good thing, right?  All I can say is: THANK GOODNESS FOR KIND AND HELPFUL CEMETERY GROUNDS-KEEPERS!!!!  Wow!  I probably would never have found this gravestone!  You can see in the first photo, that the stone was pretty well hidden!  I had called the cemetery office and found out the section, row and grave…but even with that info, it was hard to know when the section began, which direction the rows started etc.  I had been working for a while when a VERY KIND worker drove up in his red truck and asked if I needed help finding a grave.   I told him the information…so he found the row, then paced off the grave number and WHHAAALAAA!  He Nailed it!  SpOT ON! First Try! {Thank you SO much, kind worker in the red truck!!}

Have a great day!  Do or Learn (or FIND) something NEW!

random notes from our NEW travels

Hey everyone! Well, we’re back from our travels to Minnesota.  We’ve never been to that beautiful state, so it was all NEW to us.  Above is my favorite photo from the trip.  I’m ECSTATIC that this photo turned out as well as it did, given that I used a longer shutter speed without a tripod!   Woohoo!  Minnesota was really green and pretty!  Tons of water in that state….especially this year!  The Mississippi river and all the creeks around town were almost at flood stage.  But Mother Nature was very kind to us, and the weather was gorgeous while we were there….only a trickle of rain the entire week. {Thank you!}  This photo is of Minnehaha Falls.  I love waterfalls!  They are so gorgeous and powerful!  I also enjoyed learning some of the local history.  Quite a bit of it related to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s epic poem, ‘The Song of Hiawatha’.  That was interesting, because I’m somehow related to the poet (probably in a round about way) and most of my time in MN was working on family history.  I’ll share a bit more in future posts about that.

Well, have a great Saturday!  Do or Learn something NEW!.

a NEW iPhone Friday Photo

rainyday2

I took this photo on my phone on JUNE 17th!  It was rainy in the valley and snowy in the mountains that day!  Around here we say, ‘If you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes and it’ll change!’

This view was from a ‘Parade of Homes’ house my sister and I were touring through…they had a lovely view of the mountains, but they were covered in fog and clouds that day.   Have a great Friday!  Do or Learn something NEW!

Hello everyone!  Well, my son’s wedding day was wonderful and I have a sweet NEW daughter-in-law!  Yeah!  Everything went well and the happy couple are back from a short get-away and are now settling into their cute little apartment.  Life is fun!

I was lucky and got to take some of the flowers home after the wedding reception and so, you know…I had to take some pics!  Here are a few:

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW random stuff i gotta share

oldercoupleatzion

Happy Monday! I took this very random photo of this couple enjoying the scenery during our recent trip to Zion National Park.  Just something about them caught my eye.  Then I wondered if it would qualify for the Split-Second Story Photo Challenge which sounded like a fun NEW challenge to participate in.

Another NEW random thing….I recently learned about two (NEW to me) vegetables that I’d never heard about before.  I learned about  MORINGA on a YouTube video here and Wikipedia here; and DIACON here and here.  Have I been living under a rock?  I’ve got to see if I can find these two veggies in my area.

And lastly, I found a NEW and very interesting form of art: Shadow Painting.  Very cool!  Who thinks of these things?!?!!!

Have a great day!  Do or learn something NEW!
