a NEW heirloom!

I FINALLY finished my Christmas quilt! I’ll be informing my family that it WILL be a family heirloom…because after the enormous amount of time I spent on it, my last will and testament is going to decree that my grand-children, great-grandchildren, great, great (and so on) MUST cherish this quilt and display it EVERY Christmas for generations!!! (Or I will haunt them :o) It WILL be a family heirloom!

After finishing, I gave my husband a very direct assignment. I told him to remind me NOT to start another quilt with that much piecing EVER AGAIN! He said, ‘You told me that after you finished the one hanging in our room’. WHAT? I DID? And you let me start another one? (He had no clue what I was ‘starting’)

This is the quilt hanging in our room:

This baby quilt, however, was very do-able.

From now on…it’s baby quilts for me, if there is any piecing involved!  Serious quilters call me a Big Baby!…But I’ve learned I’m a sprinter seamstress….marathon projects are just out of my league! What NEW thing have you learned today?

NEW porch decor

I recently painted an old table and followed the great instructions at  I {Heart} Nap Time. I’m not sure if I didn’t put enough vaseline on, or what…but I’ll keep practicing (because I still have plenty of paint, plaster and wax!) I really liked trying this NEW technique!

Check out the process pics:

Also….I just HAD to try this simple no-sew pillow cover at Organize and Decorate Everything.

You can (kind of) see my version on my porch chair. I’d recommend a stiff pillow, because mine scrunched together when I tied the knot in the fabric. But still way cool….and changeable!

NEW on the cheap!

I challenged myself today.  My project today had to cost ZERO out-of-pocket $, and it had to use my two NEW toys (cutting machine and embroidery sewing machine).  This is what I came up with….but I plan to add some spiders and spider webs when I actually put it up on my shelf where I plan to display it .  This is just a quick snap-shot of today’s creation…yup, I think it looks like Charlie Brown’s t-shirt too! :o)

What NEW thing have you done today?

What’s For Dinner?

I’ve had this white board in my pantry a long time, to write the weekly menu on. However, I recently purchased a cutting machine, and my very first NEW project was trying it out on this white board.  I added vinyl lettering instead of just using the dry-erase markers for the days. Easy Peasy!!! I think I’m going to like this machine! After putting the board back up in the pantry, my boys promptly filled in the menu they wanted: Sunday= Steak, Monday = Subway, Tuesday = Taco Bell, Wednesday = Cafe Rio….etc etc. (Yeah right-o! :o)

NEWbie to link parties

Since I’m so new at blogging, I’m constantly surprised at the many link parties and various ways people have come up with to share this fun media of blogging. Today I found a “Favorite photo of the week’ party at Simple As That.  What a great idea!….loved looking at the great photography too! I’m sure there are more such parties…I’m excited to find them!  (I think this Lone Leaf on a Log is my fav for this week).

More Modge Podge…NEW pumpkins

Modge Podge has been my friend this week! I haven’t used this much  MP since I made the Game Room posters (I’ll show you those…sometime).

These pumpkins came from the dollar store, of course! Then all I did was rip some halloween-ish fabric in strips and modge podge away. My poor birdhouse has been sitting empty for months….so I’m happy to finally have something cute to put it in 🙂

I’m sharing this at Happy Hour Projects Great Pumpkin Party

a NEW turntable

One of these days, refrigerators are going to have built-in turntables, so items don’t get shoved to the back and forgotten for months on end while growing disgusting….well, you know, right? This week I’m trying out my NEW turntable. I’ve found that I like putting dairy product containers on it (sour cream, cottage cheese, cream cheese and yogurt) because they are all similar-sized containers and it just works! I can stack them 2 to 3 high and simply turn it to get to what I need.

How is YOUR refrigerator organization? Need extra tips and suggestions? I was over at Simply Organized, and she has great ideas too!

NEW Halloween Decor (Re-purposed)

Today I turned my old junk into NEW Halloween decor! Being the frugal-gal cheap mamma I am, I typically have a hard time spending too much $ on holiday decorations. When I saw this plate rack with the LOVELY palm trees sitting in my closet I knew I could turn it into something Halloween-ish. It was the easiest project I think I’ve ever done! Quick coat of paint and modge podge letters on it. 5 minutes, tops! (Not counting drying time:o) )What can you make NEW from something used?

See the before pics….with the LOVELY palm trees!

Fall Colors 2012

This post will be short on words….I’ll just let the pics say it all. I went up the canyon today.  My $6 canyon pass is good for three days…so I plan to get my $$ worth and go up again and again! Love the fall colors! One of my favorite things EVER!
