a NEW photo of my week and a short Sunday sermon

zion3-2

Happy Sunday!  Here’s another pic from our hike in Zion National Park.  For today’s short sermon, I’ll pair this photo with a talk called ‘The Reflection in the Water’.

“Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, using the analogy of the ugly duckling, explains that young adults can find great purpose in knowing who they are.”

Here’s a small snippet of the talk after the Ugly Duckling analogy:

“…most people have felt sad or inadequate at one time or another. It’s natural to have times of self-doubt or unhappiness. The question, why should I go on living, is simply another wording of the age old phrase penned by William Shakespeare 400 years ago, and uttered by millions of Hamlets the world over since that time, “To be or not to be, that is the question. But Shakespeare was wrong. He was wrong.”

President Uchtdorf goes on to suggest some edits to Shakespeare’s Hamlet and then comments that he understands that such an edit would hopelessly ruin one of the greatest literary masterpieces of all time!  President Uchtdorf is such a great speaker and wise teacher!  I loved this sermon!  I hope you do too.

Have a terrific day! Read and learn something NEW!

a NEW Thursday Thought

Zioncoll

Happy Thursday!

I think this quote originally said ‘The palest ink is always sharper than the best memory’…which is true.  Writing things down is so important! (I need to do better at keeping a journal!)  But I thought this quote also pertained to photography.  With these photographs, I’ll always be able to remember our hike to these waterfalls in Zion National Park.  I’ll remember slipping and sliding on the mud as I walked behind a small waterfall (lower right photo). I used to think I’d remember certain things forever…but, no!…now I know my memory fades.  That is why I love photography, I guess.

Have a terrific day!  Learn or do something NEW!

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

mushcoll

Happy Monday! So, I don’t particularly like mushrooms, but these were sprouting up in a nearby park next to a walking path I was on and for some reason they just called out to be photographed.  Random, I know!  So…other miscellaneous stuff:

Stuff I’ve read lately: Daddy Long Legs.  A short book written by Mark Twain’s great niece.  I’ll admit to skimming through some of the middle…just to get to the end.  Nice story idea, but kind of old-fashioned writing style.  It was published in 1916 (I think), so that’s to be expected.  I didn’t realize there was a movie too…with Fred Astaire.  I’ll have to watch it and see if I like it better than the book.

I listened to this book on CD:  Washington’s Six Spies.  It was interesting to learn more about the intelligence aspect of the Revolution.  You know, to me, it use to seem like 1776 was ages ago…but now, 250-ish years ago doesn’t seem that long ago.  Its all relative.  Countries across the pond have oodles more years of history than we do. Does that make me really old?  Of course, the book referenced Benedict Arnold quite a bit and I was trying to remember a few details from The Traitors Wife that I read about a year ago.

I bought RainX to try a window cleaning hack that I saw on Pinterest.  I’ll let you know how that turns out! :o)

Lastly, I made Turkey Cranberry Enchiladas this week.  Who knew turkey and cranberries went so well with cilantro, salsa and cumin???  Try it with your turkey leftovers next month!

Well, have a great day!  Do or learn something NEW!

a NEW taste Tuesday

snickerdoodles

Ah, it’s been a while since I’ve had time to spend in the kitchen; but I tried a NEW taste this last week:  Pumpkin Snickerdoodles.  It sounded like a delicious, and…fall-ish new twist on my favorite type of cookie.  They were VERY yummy!

Here’s where I found the recipe: Pumpkin Snickerdoodles

Have a great Tuesday!  Learn or Do, or Bake something NEW!

a NEW photo of my week and a short Sunday sermon

Happy Sunday! I thought this path that I photographed this week would pair nicely with this great talk, The Three Rs of Choices.

Here’s a sneak peek: “First, the right of choice; second, the responsibility of choice; and third, the results of choice”…but go read the rest of the talk if you have time, because its fabulous!
