NEW Photos of my week #20 (I finally completed a scavenger hunt photo challenge!)

emptyegg1

I’ve been meaning to do the Scavenger Hunt photo challenge for quite some time. I’d always write down the ‘themes’ or type them on the sticky note on my desktop to remind myself, but the weeks just whizzed by too fast, and it never happened UNTIL THIS WEEK! YeAh!!!

This week’s themes were: WATER, EMPTY, FRESH, WEATHERED, and ORDINARY.

Since its Easter, I’m sharing my ‘EMPTY’ photo first (photo at very top of post).  That word reminded me of a sweet story called Jeremy’s Egg – An Easter Story….take the time to read it!  I think you’ll really like it too!

a NEW project (memorization program)

memory{source}

***Francis Bacon, the philosopher, scientist, and author said, “It is not what we eat but what we digest that makes us strong; not what we earn but what we save that makes us rich; not what we learn but what we remember that makes us wise.”***

Isn’t that so true!?!?!   So…I’ve started a NEW memorization program!  It’s awesome and so far so good!!! (I’ve been at it a little over a week:o)  There are sooo many things I can use this program with….scriptures, vocabulary words, quotes, foreign languages etc etc etc.!  I’m starting with scriptures.  My son introduced me to this program (see instructions he emailed me below…sorry for the quality, it looks like it’s been passed around a bit).  My son has memorized hundreds of scriptures!  It’s a GREAT program which I think I’ll try to implement with various projects!

Have a great day everyone!  Learn (AND REMEMBER) something NEW today!

NEW sore muscles! (From Photography???)

outfocustennisplayer

Who knew I could get sore muscles from taking photographs! Wow!  I’ve found out I definitely can!!!  And it REALLY hurts!  Apparently if I hold my camera up for a long time…trying to keep it really still while focusing through the tiny opening in a chain-link fence and holding it there for a while, waiting for the tennis player on the other side of the fence to make an awesome shot, it uses muscles I never knew I had!  Note to self: take a tripod next time!

The best way I know of getting rid of lactic acid build-up is swimming.  I’ve got to try and make it to the pool ASAP!  Any other suggestions of how I can get rid of this awful PAIN!?!?….Fast!?

NEW books on my nightstand

blind

I’ve had a few books on my nightstand, for a while now….waiting for me to find the time to crack them.  They were:

A Blind Eye by Julie Daines,  Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, and Adobe Photoshop  Lightroom 2

Well, last Sunday evening I picked up the first one, A Blind Eye, right after dinner and I didn’t put it down until I had read the entire book  (roughly 160 pages)!  It kept my attention the entire read!  It’s a young adult murder mystery (NOT my typical choice), but I’m soooo glad I read it because, as you know, I LOVE newness /different-ness!  It was very good and I’d recommend it.  Hopefully I’ll get the other two books read very soon (I’ve renewed them from the library twice already).  I’ll let you know what I think about those after I get them off my nightstand.  I hope you all get to read (or do or learn) something NEW today!

Thursday’s Thought

einsteinquote

This quote was on a recent handout from the Family History class I’m taking.  LOVE.IT!!!  I coupled it with one of my favorite shots.  Again, thank goodness for phones with cameras!…because, of course, when this scene appeared before me, I didn’t have my ‘good’ camera with me!  My hubby always says, “What kind of photographer are you?”…when I lament leaving my camera home :o)

Everyone have a great day today, and try to ‘earnestly exert yourselves to give as much as you receive’ today!

learning something NEW (flamboyance)

flamboyance

Well, you all know I love, loVE, LOVE learning something NEW!  I was recently visiting gembobs crafts and really enjoyed reading through the ’50 Happy Facts to get you in the mood for life’!  AND…I learned something new! (see happy fact number 31)    I did not know (or if I once knew, I soon forgot) that a group of flamingos is called a flamboyance.  COOL! :o)  Other terms are: colony, flurry, regiment or stand of flamingos.

I took this pic at a nearby aviary last summer and right when I was going to get some really good pics of these flamingos, my camera battery went DEAD!  But thank goodness for phone cameras, right?

Do or learn something NEW today!

a NEW wedding dress transformation

DSC_0097

I have a VERY talented niece!  She took her mother’s wedding dress and TOTALLY transformed it!  I missed going to the wedding, because it was multiple states away, but my other sisters were ohhing and awhing about the dress recently, so I had to go see it for myself (she’s local now).  Fabulous.Gorgeous.Beautiful!!!

The old dress (hmmm not sure what year this was, but I’m guessing early 1980’s):

old and NEW Easter decor

easterbasket1

Whew!  I’m FINALLY done entertaining for a while!  We have had soooooo many ‘events’ around here lately! I’m kind of exhausted!!! :o)  However I did have a bit of energy to dig out the Easter decor over the weekend.  (None too soon, since Easter comes pretty early this year!)  I took a few pics: the ‘old’ decor is my fabric covered styrofoam easter eggs.  I’ve loved them for years…and the best part is: I didn’t make them!  My lovely Mother-in-law made them and gave them to us YEARS ago.    I poked around to see if there were any tutorials that I could share in case you’re interested in making some.   These are pretty close, but I think my MIL actually used a butter knife and tucked the fabric into the groove then finished off with embellishments.

And,  of course, Pinterest has lots of fabric-covered easter egg ideas  Check these out HERE!

My NEW decor this year is this VERY SIMPLE glass jar filled with eggs…finished off with  burlap and ribbon.  Truth be told:  I got these eggs for FREE.  You know when  you buy a washing machine at the local appliance store and they give you a “rebate” of $30-$40 to get to you come back into their store?….but the store really doesn’t have anything at all for that price?  (Well they have a very few things.  These eggs for example).  So that’s how I got them for ‘free’.
