NEWly organized pots and pans

I do NOT think pots and pans were created to live in cupboards….they are just too oddly shaped and it typically isn’t efficient use of space. Am I right? I prefer to hang my pots and pans. I’ve loved my curtain rod in my pantry, which I’ve had for a few years now, but I recently added a NEW second rod. {see the old/single rod below}

What’s great is the second rod only took up a couple more inches of pantry space, and I can hang twice as many pots and pans. SCorE! I love efficiency…especially brand-spankin’-NEW efficiency!

a NEW sewing corner

I’m SUPER excited about my NEW sewing corner. I don’t have an entire room to dedicate to sewing/crafting etc. But I am soooo excited to have all my sewing things organized and in their own little space in a corner of my laundry room – slash – mud room – slash – sewing room!

A few details….My little corner USED to look like this:

I painted the chair the same day I tried out the chalk paint method I previously posted about here.  The embroidery hoops in the left-side frame will soon look more like this:

There’s a great tutorial for making these at Yellow Spool….{I just need to  find make the time}.  The frame on the right-hand side of my sewing desk is a bulletin board for pinning up pattern instructions etc.

My hubby is THE BEST! He takes the visualized plans in my head and makes them a reality. I only wish I could afford to hire him out as my full-time carpenter!  He’s quite a busy guy and my little projects aren’t always top priority…but then, seriously, I wouldn’t want them to be! (Not always, anyway :o)

a NEW road traveled

I just returned from a short weekend trip. Although we’ve been to this city before, we went there a NEW way. While my husband attended some meetings, I got to go out shooting. Here are a few of the pics from today. My favorite is the old fire truck. On the way home, I was driving and my husband actually noticed it.  It was a good NEW road we traveled today!

Learn something NEW

How much do you know about The Doppler Effect? Nothing?…A little?….or A lot? I’ll admit I knew a little…just the basics. But I wanted to know more….I wanted to learn something NEW!

Each morning I drive past this city building that has a bell tower, and the bells sound at the top of each hour. I know when I’m just a few minutes late, because sometimes I pass as the bells are sounding and, of course, as I pass, the pitch of the bells change. {The Doppler Effect}. Don’t you just LOVE Wikipedia???  That’s the first place I went to learn more: Wikipedia/Doppler Effect.   Their analogy of the ball throwing I thought was excellent:

“To understand what happens, consider the following analogy. Someone throws one ball every second in a man’s direction. Assume that balls travel with constant velocity. If the thrower is stationary, the man will receive one ball every second. However, if the thrower is moving towards the man, he will receive balls more frequently because the balls will be less spaced out. The inverse is true if the thrower is moving away from the man.” (source: Wikipedia)

I pictured a tennis ball machine going awry and spitting multiple balls at a poor fellow/gal….but couldn’t find a visual of that for you…sorry! :o)

So, today I brushed up on what I already knew about the Doppler Effect and then increased my knowledge regarding that interesting subject.  What can you learn more about?  Learn something NEW today!

a NEW Photo Necklace

I really like the looks of jewelry….on other people. However, when I wear it, It tends to get in my way and typically kind of annoys me (except, of course, my wedding ring! :o) But when I saw the post about photo-crafting on Short on Words a while back, I made a note-to-self to at least try it out. It’s a quick and easy project, so if you love photography and jewelry…this is for you! -OR- if  you’re like me, and love photography and have friends or family that love jewelry…you can make them gifts! Win-Win!!!

So, this photo went from this:

a NEW recommendation AND a scrumptious sandwich recipe

I’ve bought me something NEW, and I highly recommend it! I’ve been growing my own sprouts for quite a few years now, and I recently bought this jar lid…

made especially for the sprouting process, and I like it a lot! I used to use a little cheese cloth over the opening of the jar to rinse the seeds through, but this jar lid is reusable and only cost a few dollars at AmazonSprouting is EASY!  Here’s a few pics of the process:

There are tons of tutorials for sprouting…so I won’t give you the step-by-step instructions, but just know it’s REALLY easy!  The hardest thing is remembering to rinse the seeds…but that’s what the reminder alarm on your cell phone is for, right!?!?

Anyway…on to the REALLY scrumptious sandwich recipe….to try your sprouts out with!

Smoked Turkey Sandwiches:

1 8oz. package cream cheese, 1/4 cup orange marmalade, 1/2 cup chopped fine pecans.  Mix and spread on a croissant (not the entire mixture….just to taste, like mayo).  Add 1 slice smoked turkey meat, 1 slice provolone cheese, and 1 leaf Romaine lettuce (or sprouts).

That’s it!  Try it…it’s really, really yummy!  Who knew pecans and orange marmalade would be so heavenly!?

Royal Icing Accents

Each time I make and decorate cookies, it seems I always have left-over icing. About a month ago, I was trying to be efficient and knew I’d need some wacky eyes for Halloween cookies this month. So I made a bunch of eyes and stored them away.

It was REALLY nice to whip them out, and have them ready to go!  From now on, I’m going to try and use up all the left-over icing after each cookie-making session. At Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle there is a terrific tutorial about making accents from left-over icing. Plan ahead and make some NEW accents for future use!
