Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

texblossoms Happy Monday!  First, I just have to say that I don’t use the Shazam app on my phone too often, but when I do, I smile and exclaim, ‘This is a beautiful thing!’  Sometimes on my commute…{much longer these days}, I’ll either listen to the classical radio station, a TED talk, a podcast or book on CD from the library.  Recently I was listening to the radio and Mendelssohn’s Hebrides overture was playing.  I knew I had played that piece in one of the orchestras I had belonged to throughout the years….but could I think of the title of the piece?  NO!  So I Shazam-ed it.  This wonderful app did not fail me! Plus the radio announcer explained the history of the piece, so I learned something NEW about Fingal’s Cave.  That day’s commute was awesome!

We also recently attended a concert of a friend who played ‘Concert Paraphrase of The Song of the Soldiers of the Sea‘  which was NEW to me.  Our friend’s fingers were flying! Loved it!

Lastly, I’ll just share a recent minor serendipitous thing.  I’ve had Philomena on my to-read list since seeing this post at A Delectable Life blog…way last year.  When I saw the movie, Philomena, at the library, I realized I probably wouldn’t read the book any time soon (too many others to get through)…so I checked out the movie.  I liked it (other than the unnecessary use of bad language)… because I love genealogy.  One of the characters in the movie quoted T.S. Eliot:

“We shall not cease from exploration

And the end of all our exploring

Will be to arrive where we started

And know the place for the first time.”

I normally would have NEVER even noticed that quote in the movie, but just the day before, I was inputting a PhD Honors Thesis into a database at work.  Part of the title of the thesis was ‘And they shall know the place for the first time’.  So, of course, when I heard it again the very next day, my ears were pricked.  I’ve since researched T.S. Eliot and learned something NEW.  Love it when that happens!

Have a great Monday!  Do or learn something NEW!

a NEW Texture Tuesday

lifebreaths

Happy Tuesday!  I was going to save this post for my ‘Thursday Thought’, but just couldn’t wait.  (If I don’t get a post published for Thursday, you’ll know why! :o)

My breath was taken away when I noticed these beauties yesterday!  I had to walk that same path today, this time with my camera, and capture their loveliness!

Have a great day!  Do or learn something NEW!

NEW blossoms and a short Sunday sermon

whiteblossoms

Happy Sunday! I’m going crazy and shooting tree blossoms all over town!  They are just SO pretty! Here’s another version:

flagandblossoms

I recently attended a workshop given by a religion professor.  He was very knowledgeable about the New Testament and told us about his family’s tradition of preparing for Easter.  He’s put together a website with all of his resources (HERE).

He, of course, starts with Palm Sunday (next week!!!!).

He writes: Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem has a long history in the Christian tradition, and it plays an important in the liturgies of the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and some Protestant churches. For me celebrating Palm Sunday truly opens Holy Week, setting it apart from other weeks by focusing my thoughts and faith on Christ my king.

I hope to take some time with my family and study “Resurrection Week” a bit more in depth this year also.  Have a great day!  Do or learn something NEW!

NEW photos of my week

magcollageframed

Oh man…I’m so excited! Finally NEW signs of Spring!!!  Life!  Color! YEAH!  Something to photograph!  Since our winter has been so mild, we hardly even had any pretty snow to photograph.  Thus my excitement for Spring!

I was thrilled that I (for once) had my cameras in my car.  This magnolia tree is at my work, so that was convenient…and so gorgeous!

Have a great day.  Do or learn something NEW!

another NEW heirloom collage

momclassring1

Happy Wednesday!  I created this collage a few weeks ago, but must have forgot to post it.  I’m trying to take photos of all of my heirlooms…little by little.  I received this class ring at the same time my mother gave me my grandfathers freemason ring (previous post HERE). I think a photo book with a history of all the items and who they belonged to will be a treasure.

Have a great day!  Do or learn something NEW!

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

mantle

Happy Monday!  Well, so far, I’ve kept up on my goal to have something NEW/different on my mantle each month since…hmmmm…..October (I think).  Here’s a quick snapshot of March’s mantle.  I basically just put up green stuff…so, with the exception of the St Patrick’s Day plaque, I’ll be able to use all the items elsewhere.  Don’t be surprised if you see some of this stuff in future photos.

Well, what’s NEW?  We recently went to a benefit concert and enjoyed listening to Alfie Boe.  He is so good!  Alfie was the last artist to sing and it was hard to wait for his time to come on!  The other artists were good….but you know…just not AS good :o) The benefit was for the Elizabeth Smart Foundation and Operation Underground Railroad.

Also, I’ve been hitting the gym longer these days.  Since now that my commute to work is more than 5 minutes, I’ve changed to working out after work rather than before….so I tend to stay longer.  I have a few NEW favorite YouTube exercise channels I’ll share with you:

Athlean-XX for Women, Fitness Blender, and POPSugar Fitness

I’ve been slacking lately on my posts, so I’m sure I’m forgetting something NEW…oh yeah, we went and stayed at Lake Las Vegas and went into town and saw Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles Love.  It was very good!

That’s about it.  Happy Monday.  Do or learn something NEW!

a NEW famous recipe

brownies

Happy Friday!  OK, I have to say I’m thrilled to finally have a brownie recipe that turns out pretty much PERFECT My other brownie recipes seem too gooey in the middle, but not these.  Hallelujah!  Plus, its great that this recipe makes such a big batch (I made the baker’s half sheet size)…I was able to take a plate of brownies to three different neighbors and still have plenty for my family.  Awesome!  I think I’ll make another batch before St Patrick’s Day.  I found the recipe HERE.

Have a great day!  Learn or Do…or bake something NEW!
