NEW bread recipes and a short Sunday sermon

dillloaf

Happy Sunday!  I recently read Jodi’s post about Homemade Dill Bread and I miraculously had all the ingredients on hand, so I made some that same day!!!  Love it when that happens!

I also made these loaves a week or so ago…and learned something NEW:

breadloafs

When garnishing bread with oats and flax seeds…it’s NOT enough to stick them on with melted butter before baking because the butter just dries up and most of the garnish falls off after baking.  (Yes, I know this from experience :o)  INSTEAD…(according to google)….use egg whites.  Makes sense…there’s much more ‘glue’ in eggs than plain water or melted butter!!!  I’ll try that next time and let you know my results.

Now…to go along with my bread theme…here is a short Sunday sermon:

breadoflife

Just as we need daily physical sustenance, the need for daily spiritual sustenance is just as strong. We can remember Jesus Christ every day as we pray, read the scriptures, and meditate.

And…here’s a TERRIFIC video reminder about the Pattern of Daily Bread  {HERE}

Have a great day!  Learn or do something NEW!

a NEW wedding gift combo {and free card printable}

lovinfromoven

Happy Friday!  So..in June when my son got married, I was so impressed with people’s creative wedding gifts!  I thought, WOW, how do people have the time to be so creative?!?   I then realized it probably didn’t take all that much extra time to just add a little something unique to the gifts, so I resolved to try to be a bit more creative.  Here is one idea:  Copy a cute and “lovey-dovey” saying on the bottom of a glass pan with a black sharpie. (I only wrote on one pan and left the other one normal)…add a couple of dish towels and oven mitts…top it off with a homemade card and whala!…a not-so-boring wedding gift! :o)

wedcard

I made up the card speedy-quick-like.  I used my NEW embossing machine for the textured bottom paper, then just added the graphic below (feel free to print it out for your use).

Let me know if any of you have any wonderful (quick-but-creatively-unique) wedding gift ideas!  This one might get over-used if I don’t have a few other ideas up my sleeve…so please share! :o)

NEW time management tips

lakeedge

Happy Tuesday!  I took this photo at a nearby reservoir and decided to add that quote from Ben Franklin since I don’t recall hearing that before.  Aw…Benjie Franklin…he was such a wise fellow!  Well, I try to stay somewhat organized and keep a few essential time management strategies in the forefront of my mind…most days.  So I thought I’d share a few of my favorites:

1)  Always go through your mail the minute you bring it in the house.  If it’s junk – trash it immediately.  If it’s a bill, set up an online payment immediately (try to only handle that piece of paper once).  If it needs to be filed…do it right then.  Basically, just don’t let your mail pile up.

2)  Since they say time is money, save money and time by using an accrual budget system.  If you know that a bunch of family birthdays, the car registration, and school fees all hit in the same month put 1/12 of the total in savings each month and then just transfer it when you need it.   Do the same thing by averaging utility bills.  That way there’s no stress in paying for the high power bill in Winter because you saved that money when the bill was less expensive in the Spring when you didn’t need to use the furnace/AC as much.

3)  Save time grocery shopping and preparing meals:  Always plan a menu.  Shop for what you’ll need for your meals for two weeks and only go to the store for perishables between major shopping days.

4) Enlist your family’s help with housecleaning.  Yes, I know this may be ‘easier said than done’.  But simply make some assignments…ask and you shall (probably) receive.  My hubbie knows it’s his job to unload the dishwasher.  He has simply incorporated that into his morning routine.  It always needs done…every single morning…because my job is to make sure the dishes are done before I go to bed.  The teenage boys?  Well, they’re a different matter.  They need a bit more nudging in the helping out department, but I’m sure…subconsciously…they are watching how my hubbie and I both chip in with what needs done.  I’m sure they’ll ‘get it’ when they have their own homes to keep up.  And in the meantime…I just have to bribe them. :o)

Yikes!  I just looked back on these four ‘strategies’ and think – WOW…those are just REALLY basic!  But ya know, the (kind of unorganized) people I know would be so much more organized if they’d just do these basic things.  Simple!

Well, have a GREAT day!  Try something NEW today!

a NEW recipe…to use up my basil with

basildressing

Happy Friday!  I kind of, sort of…pretty much forgot about the basil that I planted early this summer.  It didn’t seem to be doing all that great in the heat, but my hubby brought in some last night and said there was quite a bit more.  So, I tried this NEW salad dressing recipe.  The recipe called for 2 1/2 cups of chopped basil.  Normally, that might be a bit much to harvest all at one time, but we had plenty of it!

Here’s the Recipe:

Happy Wednesday!  I captured this photo standing on a bridge looking down into a small stream and couldn’t help but think how even rocks can be really beautiful.  Then I noticed a few NEW and creative things people do with rocks.  Here are only a few of them:

a NEW Texture Tuesday photo

gardenandlibrary

Happy Tuesday!  It’s pretty much true that if you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need!  I automatically picture a flower garden as a necessity, but I’m sure whoever originally said that probably meant vegetable garden. :o)

Have a great day!  Do or learn…or grow…something NEW!

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

mtnstreamquote

Happy Monday!  So, what’s NEW with you?  I’m just quickly going to list a few miscellaneous/very random items from around the internet I’ve noticed lately.  Maybe you’ll be interested in some of them too.

My NEW favorite YouTube channel:  Phlearn “They make learning photography and photoshop FUN!”

I recently watched some old Carol Burnett Bloopers.  She was such a crack up!!!

I have over ONE THOUSAND royal icing decorated sugar cookie pins on my ‘Cookie’ Pinterest board!  I’ve really gotta find some time to make some of them!  (Maybe if I’d quit pinning so many pictures of cookies and start baking some, that would help, HUH? :o)

I’ve got some pine nuts on hand, so I’m going to try Recipe Girl’s Santa Fe Chicken for dinner this Sunday.  Actually, my fabulous hubby always cooks on Sundays…so I guess he’ll be trying it out :o)  (Well, come to think of it, I think I’d better help more than usual this week….new recipes kind of stress him out)

Have a great day!  Do or learn something NEW!!!
