a NEW collection of Spring photos

Happy Friday!  Well, I tried something NEW and made an e-photo book of Spring photos on Smilebox HERE.

My review of the Smilebox site:  I’d give the site a B.  It was quite easy to use, but I think they could do so much better with more fonts and better photo resizing capability.  It kind of bugs me that it takes a few seconds to load the album (about 8 seconds!….ETERNITY!!!)…but that’s life, I guess. Check it out and let me know what you think!  (Although all photos included in the album have already been previously posted…so nothing really NEW!  :o)

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

Happy Monday! I hope you all are enjoying the beautiful SPRING!

Well, the NEW things I want to share this week are some very random things I learned recently at a genealogy conference I attended.  So…in genealogy, we strive to find birth dates, marriage dates, death dates etc…and any additional historical information about marriage customs might just help us do that.  I didn’t previously know what ‘Bundling’ was.   However, now that I know, it probably won’t help me break through any genealogical brick walls, but I have to say it is interesting!

Did you know that sweethearts in the 18th century were not only allowed to sleep together before marriage, but were encouraged to???  It was known as ‘Bundling’ (check out Wikipedia OR This Blog)

I also learned of the history of  the Italian infant abandonment system and its name-assignment practices.  (Terrific article HERE)  I found it so sad that unwed mothers could anonymously abandon their babies in a rotating wheel that was on an outside wall of a hospital!  Wow.

a NEW Texture Tuesday

My breath was taken away when I noticed these beauties yesterday!  I had to walk that same path today, this time with my camera, and capture their loveliness!

Happy Tuesday!  I took advantage of my day off yesterday to get some shooting in.  It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to!  There was too much winter-dead stuff outside, so I stayed indoors and shot some still-life.  I love using prop items that I’ve received as gifts because they remind me of the wonderful people in my life.  I received the vase from my son and daughter-in-law in a gift basket with other items as a ‘thank you’ after their wedding.  That was thoughtful of them!  Although that day WAS all about them, they realized it took a lot of time and effort from everyone else, so their ‘thank you’ meant a lot!  The doily was made from a dear friend of my Mother’s that I haven’t seen in years.  She gave us this doily along with a few others for our wedding (SO many years ago!)  It was good to think of her as I captured this shot.

Happy Sunday!  I walked by this lovely yard recently…not sure why the empty pots are stored there on the fence like that…(?)…but their yard sure was gorgeous!

For a short Sunday sermon, here’s a quote from a talk I listened to a while back.  I think it is very true.

a NEW Thursday thought

These Red White and Blue flowers caught my eye (when I didn’t have my camera with me…of course!)  So a few days later, I took my camera with me to capture these very patriotic beauties.  What do you think?

a secret garden….my NEW ideas, plans and dreams

Happy Saturday!  So….ever since I read this post about making a secret garden, I’ve been having NEW ideas, plans and dreams about doing the same thing.  We have a section of our yard that would be WILL BE perfect for a secret garden!  It was formerly our vegetable garden, but we moved it when our neighbor’s trees got so big that our vegetables were too shaded.  There really is no outlet in that corner of the yard because of the fence, so it’s just a perfect spot for a NEW secret hideaway.  Yes, there’s lots of other projects that may be higher on the priority list, but I thought if I posted my plans…somehow the universe would make it happen…eventually. :o)

Here’s a few things I really want in my secret garden:

#1 Mosaics!

NEW photo of my week #42

I’ve decided that getting a shot of a bee on a flower is almost sheer luck…and getting TWO bees, is REALLY lucky!…because if you see a bee and want to take its photograph, by the time you get your camera up to your eye to focus, the bee is already somewhere else.  (And you can get really dizzy trying to follow those busy bees from petal to petal!!! Yes, that’s experience talking!)  It’s MUCH easier on your equilibrium to just focus on a flower and HOPE that those busy insects buzz into your area of focus.
