Miscellaneous Monday – NEW stuff i gotta share

oldshack1

Happy Monday!  Well, I just wanted to share this NEW photo of a very old and dilapidated house.  It’s seen better days, I’m sure!

Also…here is a very random thought I had recently:  Since I grew up in the U.S. which has very liberally baby naming laws (you can basically name your own child anything you want to)…I was quite surprised when I learned something NEW….the fact that other countries weren’t so accommodating.  I thought these news articles were interesting:  “Who, What, Why: Why do some countries regulate baby names?”  and “8 Counties with Fascinating Baby Naming Laws”  I actually went searching for the French list of names because a friend told me France has a similar baby naming law – but I couldn’t find their list.  I simply found that trivia a bit interesting.  If you know of any other country name trivia – let me know! OK?

Have a great Monday!

Update: After I posted this, I noticed at The Day After that they are having a A Lingering Look at Architecture challenge! (Abandoned Architecture)  I had no idea, BUT, I’ll just say I’ve accepted the challenge :o)   Go check it out…there’s some GREAT shots!

NEW photo of my week #42

twobeesonflower2

I’ve decided that getting a shot of a bee on a flower is almost sheer luck…and getting TWO bees, is REALLY lucky!…because if you see a bee and want to take its photograph, by the time you get your camera up to your eye to focus, the bee is already somewhere else.  (And you can get really dizzy trying to follow those busy bees from petal to petal!!! Yes, that’s experience talking!)  It’s MUCH easier on your equilibrium to just focus on a flower and HOPE that those busy insects buzz into your area of focus.

Miscellaneous Monday….NEW stuff I gotta share

dixiecollage

It’s Monday {again} :o)!  How do the weekends fly by sooooo fast?!!!  I even took work off Thursday and Friday, and the weekend still zoomed by too quickly!  Last week, my hubby and I traveled south, to Utah’s Dixie.  It was really nice and WARM there!  The red rocks, blue skies, and blooming flowers made for nice NEW photos!

We made it a very quick trip and was back home by Friday evening – then Saturday I attended a GREAT Family History Fair and took a few NEW classes.  Now I’m motivated to ‘get back at it’!  (I seem to I do genealogy in spurts :o)  I also recently noticed this family history blog:  DearMYRTLE’s Genealogy Blog …I like to visit once in a while, to keep myself motivated to do more researching – (because sometimes, when those brick walls pop up, I can get a bit discouraged).

And lastly…this GREAT quote from M*A*S*H’s Alan Alda:

Begin challenging your own assumptions. Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in. Alan Alda

a NEW emphasis….consistency

rowoftrees

I’ve been thinking a lot about consistency lately.  I thought this row of blossoming trees was a good NEW photo pick for today.  Just as these beautiful trees form a consistent pattern as you look down this street, consistency in life can also be a very beautiful thing.

Here are some particularly WONDERFUL quotes about consistency:

conistencyquotes

I’ve found that, in most cases, a conscious effort to be consistent is needed…even with the most simplest of things.  A few months ago, I read Faithful, Fit & Fabulous by Connie Sokol after reading the recommendation at Pinkpolkadotcreations.

sokol

Although there wasn’t anything particularly new or different about this book, it basically encouraged readers to set a NEW goal every week….even if it is something VERY simple  Actually, the simpler the BETTER!  I decided that I’d make a conscious effort to keep the floor of my closet clear.  Instead of kicking off my shoes and leaving them on the floor, I would put them where they belong.  So, the ONLY shoes that have been left on my closet floor for months now, are my slippers (I wanted my slippers out on purpose).  And it’s been a VERY GOOD FEELING!!!  I won’t bore you with all my other very small goals, but even a BIG goal can be broken down into small goals, and the same method would be just as successful.

Try it!  A goal a week…make a conscious effort…be consistent!  Try something NEW!

a brand-NEW life

Easter

Happy Easter!  What a glorious day!…a day to remember the life, atonement and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

By the time I got to the computer and edited this photo of the tree with eggs hanging from it,  it seems I’m sort of slow in getting today’s post published.  There were already wonderful Easter-related posts up!  For instance…I’ve copied my post title from NancyCreative (great post!).

Then, I wanted to post a link to a fabulous video call Because of Him, but found it was already posted by CKDays. (You should go and watch it!)  And lastly, I enjoyed the same version of The Lord’s Prayer that I posted about on Monday, but put with another fabulous video linked on Living With My Ancestors.  (Best EVERRRRR!)

Have a beautiful Easter Day!  Because of Jesus Christ, we’ve been given the chance for a brand-NEW life!

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

horsereflection

Here’s my FAVORITE photo from my rural towns shooting session last  week (see last post).  I’ve found it is rare to find a horse with its head up, so I was happy that at least I could see this one’s reflection to add a bit of interest to this shot!

A few other miscellaneous items I gotta share:

Lately I’ve enjoyed studying the different versions of The Lord’s Prayer, and I really LOVED listening to Andrea Bocelli sing it!  He is AWESOME!

AND….if I can find the time {this week’s calendar is looking pretty busy}…I’d like to try to make a few items on my EASTER PINTEREST BOARD! CuTe StuFF!!!  Hopefully I’ll get to at least a couple of projects!

I especially LOVE these eggs from Project Alicia:

NEW photos of my week #41

oldcollage2

This week I took a short over-night trip to visit my Mom and Sister, and to also go with them to see The 5 Browns in concert.  On the way home, I stopped at various rural towns to take some pics.  It’s obvious that the old and the weathered caught my eye that day….nothing NEW!

The concert was FABULOUS!!!  50 fingers were flying!  Here’s a sample of how good they are:

On the trip I also listened to a book on CD, “A Girl Named Zippy“,  that the teacher of a family history class recommended.  The book is random stories of the childhood of Zippy.   It was nice to listen to….but I don’t think I would’ve liked reading it, since there really was no plot etc.  But it was a good example of how interesting our own personal histories can be.  (And a good reminder to me to start writing a few things down before I forget them!)
